3 post-peak insights for manufacturers

It should come as no surprise that 2020 peak season was different from any other. And for many in the manufacturing, “unprecedented” doesn’t even cut it.

We wanted to check-in with manufacturers post-peak to find out what challenges they experienced this peak season. Here are 3 quick insights from our survey.

1. Manufacturers had difficulty finding staff

Recruiting and hiring have been challenges for operations throughout this entire pandemic and peak was no different.

Our survey found 3 out of 5 employers reported not having enough workers on the busiest days during peak season. And our survey showed that the consequences of not being properly staffed were great.

2. Planning early is key

1 in 3 respondents said they will approach planning differently, including planning earlier, involving more departments in the planning process, and creating robust contingency plans for future peaks.

Luck seems to favor the prepared as they say and preparing early is one of the best takeaways from this season.

3. The silver lining

The one bright spot in all of this is that most reported meeting their goals. Despite so many setbacks this year, 4 in 5 operations met their production or fulfillment goals for peak season. A happy moment for many operations
