Celebrating 35 Years: A Q&A with Tom Sheldon, VP of Operations

Staff Management | SMX is celebrating our 35th anniversary this year. And in honor of that, we wanted to highlight some of the amazing people who make this company great. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to provide exceptional service to our customers and associates for over three decades.

This month, we are spotlighting Tom Sheldon, Vice President of Operations for Staff Management who has worked here for 30 years. We asked him a few questions about why he loves working here and advice he has for those starting out in the industry. 

1. What’s your favorite thing about working at Staff Management?

I truly love all the people who work here. At all levels, people are supportive and treat each other with respect. After 30 years, it feels like a family.

2. What drew you to Staff Management?

At the time, it was the opportunity to feel like I was running my own business. I was the Account Manager at a small fulfillment center at my first account. At just 25 years old, I was responsible for hiring, safety, payroll, client service, associate relations, and profit and loss. It was an amazing feeling to be trusted with that responsibility and it has only grown.

3. What advice do you have for someone new to the industry?

The best advice I can give it is to keep it simple. Don’t get distracted and bogged down by things that don’t align with our core mission to connect people and work. If you prioritize our associates, our clients, and our service teams in your actions each and every day, you’ll achieve success and have a fulfilling career.
